Is the Seoul Discover Pass Worth It?
The Discover Seoul Pass is a specialized tourism card built by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It functions simultaneously as a transit card (Tmoney) and grants free admission to over 50 major attractions across the city within a 24, 48, or 72-hour window. But does it actually save you money?
The Costs and What It Covers
A 48-hour pass typically costs around 70,000 KRW ($55 USD). It grants completely free, one-time access to major heavy-hitters like:
- Lotte World Theme Park (Normally ~60,000 KRW)
- N Seoul Tower Observatory (Normally ~21,000 KRW)
- COEX Aquarium (Normally ~33,000 KRW)
- AREX Airport Express Train ticket (Normally 10,000 KRW)

When It Is Absolutely Worth It
If you enjoy high-energy, packed itineraries and plan to visit the expensive, modern attractions. The math is undeniable: If you activate the card, take the AREX from the airport (10k), go to Lotte World (60k), and visit the N Seoul Tower at night (21k), you have already generated 91,000 KRW of value on Day 1 alone, completely paying off the 70,000 KRW pass.
When You Should Skip It
If your travel style involves slowly wandering traditional villages, cafe hopping, and visiting historical sites, do not buy the pass. The grand palaces (Gyeongbokgung etc.) cost only 3,000 KRW to enter. The National Museums are entirely free. If you spend your day drinking tea in Bukchon and eating street food, the pass will be a massive waste of money, as it forces you to rush to expensive ticketed attractions to find "value."
Digital vs. Physical Pass
You can buy a digital pass via a mobile app, which is convenient. However, the physical card (which can be mailed to the airport for pickup) doubles as a rechargeable Tmoney card. Even after the 48-hour attraction timer expires, the physical card remains a functional Tmoney card forever, which you will need anyway for the subway and bus.
